Everyday cocoa from the milk frother
Chop the cocoa powder into small pieces (about 2 1/2 tbsp) and add it to the milk frother along with 200 ml of plant-based milk, 1 tbsp of honey, and a pinch of spice. Heat first, then froth – in under 2 minutes, your creamy everyday companion is ready.
Cocoa in a pot for circles & rituals
Gently heat 5 tablespoons of cocoa powder per person with approximately 200 ml of plant-based milk, agave syrup, and the seeds of one vanilla pod in a saucepan. Stir vigorously at approximately 60°C until a velvety consistency is achieved. Ideal for sharing.
Lavender coconut cocoa for hot summer days
Gently heat 150 ml of coconut milk with 3 sprigs of lavender, let it steep for about 3–5 minutes, then remove the lavender. Stir in 3 tablespoons of cocoa and 1 tablespoon of honey. Let it cool and serve in a tall glass with ice cubes – your aromatic summer drink is ready. A light, floral variation inspired by classic cold lavender cocoa recipes.
Cocoa Energy Balls – the healthy snack for in between meals
Soak 150g pitted dates in 50ml warm water and drain. Combine 30g oats, 3 tbsp cocoa, 60g walnuts (or nuts of your choice), 1 tbsp coconut oil, and ½ tsp cinnamon in a blender with the dates until a smooth, slightly sticky mixture forms. Add water or plant-based milk a tablespoon at a time if needed.
Roll 10-12 balls from the mixture.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator – will keep for up to 1-2 weeks.
Ceremonial Grade vs. Conventional Cocoa
-
Ceremonial Grade Cocoa
- Mostly from small farmers in shade cultivation (agroforestry), organically grown, with a focus on quality and tradition
- Minimally processed – gentle fermentation & light roasting, low temperature to preserve active ingredients
- Rich concentration of flavonoids, minerals (magnesium, iron, zinc), anandamide, PEA and theobromine – a real superfood
- Promotes sustainable energy, emotional heart opening, mindfulness, supports rituals and contemplative moments
- Often organic, fairly traded and traceable – direct partnerships with producers
- Tend to be more expensive – due to higher quality, craftsmanship and transparent supply chains
-
Conventional cocoa
- Large plantations, often monoculture, chemically treated, origin often unclear and industrially influenced
- Intensively processed, often with high roasting and alkali treatment (“Dutching”), with loss of valuable bioactive substances
- Still contains nutrients, but in smaller amounts – often compromised by additives and processing
- Provides energy and flavor, but rarely associated with ritual background or spiritual depth
- Production is mostly anonymous, with weaker traceability and ethical control
- Cheaper – often manufactured industrially, with mass production and lower costs

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I dose 100% cocoa for my ritual?
For a daily dose, about 15-20 g is sufficient, resulting in a gentle, daily effect.
For a more intense experience, such as during a ritual, 25–30 g is common, and up to 40 g is often used in ceremonies. It's important to drink plenty of water to support the effect and avoid potential side effects such as headaches that could occur with too high a dose.
Why is 100% cocoa often used as a coffee alternative?
Cocoa contains theobromine, a gentle stimulant that provides longer and more stable energy than caffeine without causing the nervous energy of coffee.
This quality makes cocoa a preferred alternative for many, while still providing focus and alertness.
Isn't 100% cocoa too bitter to drink neat?
The taste of 100% cocoa can initially seem intense and unusually bitter. It helps to sweeten the drink as desired, for example, with honey or coconut blossom sugar, or by combining it with plant-based milk.
In this way, cocoa is perceived as creamier and more accessible.
How often can I consume cocoa?
Cocoa can be enjoyed daily. Mindful consumption is important, and occasional breaks allow the body to react to the cocoa in a new way.
Many people experience a gentle, uplifting effect, both physically and emotionally, through regular consumption.
Does cocoa contain caffeine and does it make you awake?
Yes, cocoa contains small amounts of caffeine, but significantly less than coffee. The main stimulant is theobromine, which provides a gentler, heart-opening energy and helps combine focus and calm.
Why is cocoa used in rituals?
Cocoa is often used for its heart-opening effect and can deepen emotional experience.
Due to its natural composition, it supports meditative states and is therefore used in ceremonies worldwide to promote connection and relaxation.
When should I avoid consuming cocoa?
Consumption of cocoa may cause stomach upset or mild headaches in some people, especially at high doses or if there are sensitive reactions to theobromine.
Here it is important to listen to your own body and to determine whether and how much cocoa is good for you.
