A personal journey between two worlds
The founder of Será Cacao Ritual has her roots in Germany, but for over a decade, her love for Bahia has connected her to this coastal region. Today, she lives with her family in Serra Grande on Bahia's Cacao Coast, Brazil. Her son was born here, and it was here that the vision of combining her professional experience with her passion for cacao was born.
With a background in sustainable business, many years of experience in 5-star F&B restaurants, and consulting for strategic sustainability structures within companies, Madeleine realized that cocoa is more than just a luxury item. It is a medium of connection – between cultures, people, and nature.
This realization led to the founding of Será Kakao – a project that combines high-quality, ritual cocoa from sustainable cultivation with social commitment.
This is important to us:
Our team
Our team consists of independent women who all live and work here on Bahia's Cocoa Coast. Each of us brings our own story and deep connection to this place and its culture. Together, we are committed to sustainable and socially just cocoa production that strengthens both the environment and the community.

Madeleine
Founder Será Kakao
A true cacao ritual gives us the opportunity to pause and deeply perceive the world around us. For me, cacao is not simply an ingredient, but a gift from the earth that can only unfold its true power in a healthy, diverse ecosystem.
I believe that the true magic lies in the forest itself – in the roots that nourish the soil, in the diversity of life that surrounds it, and in the respect with which it is treated.
I prefer to drink my cocoa with vanilla and cayenne chili.
Our values
They form the foundation of the Será Cocoa Project and guide every decision
Sustainability and respect for nature and the people who cultivate and care for the cocoa are at the heart of this project. We work closely with the Cabruca cooperative, a community of smallholder farmers in Bahia, Brazil, who practice traditional and regenerative farming methods such as syntropic agroforestry. These methods protect biodiversity and the delicate balance of the rainforest where our cocoa grows. Every step of the production process—from harvesting to packaging—remains in Brazil, contributing to strengthening the local economy and promoting regional value creation.
We shape our actions inspired by the three ethical principles of permaculture:
Earth Care – Caring for the Earth
People Care – Caring for people
Fair Share
Our cocoa is grown in the traditional Cabruca agroforestry system, which protects the Atlantic rainforest and preserves biodiversity. Through regenerative farming methods, we conserve natural resources and promote a healthy ecosystem.
We work closely with local smallholder farmers, ensure fair wages, and promote education and social projects. Our partnerships are based on respect, transparency, and long-term commitment.
10% of our revenue goes to projects that protect the Atlantic Rainforest and support local communities. We believe in an economy that benefits everyone involved.
