100% origin. 100% local.
Our cocoa is grown, harvested, processed, and packaged in a single region: Southern Bahia, Brazil.
Everything necessary for the creation of our products takes place there. No detours, no anonymous intermediate stations,
no shift in value creation.
This decision is based on a simple principle:
What grows locally should also be refined locally – where the knowledge, the hands, and the responsibility lie. This way, not only the taste remains authentic – but also the meaning.
And so the local people have the opportunity to grow and prospects are created for the next generations.

The Cocoa Coast: History & Present
The so-called "Costa do Cacau" is a region in southeastern Bahia that has been characterized by cocoa cultivation for over a century. Cities like Ilhéus, Itacaré, and Taboquinhas once relied on the export of the raw material – and suffered when monoculture and a fungal infestation (witches' broom disease) brought everything to a standstill in the 1980s.
Today something new is being created here:
Instead of industrial plantations, a movement for ecological and self-responsible cocoa cultivation is growing. Small cooperatives, traditional family farms, and agroforestry methods are forging a different future for the region – one in which not only cocoa, but also respect, takes root again.

Cabruca
Cabruca is a traditional form of cocoa cultivation in which cocoa trees grow in the natural undergrowth of the rainforest. Instead of clearing areas, individual larger trees are removed to create light for the cocoa while preserving the ecosystem.
This form of cultivation is particularly resource-efficient and biodiversity-friendly. It not only protects the landscape but also the region's cultural knowledge, which has been passed down through generations.
This cultivation method is the reason why Será cocoa is so special; our cocoa is part of the ecosystem and grows in harmony with its environment.
Tree to Bar
– more than a promise
We don't put "Tree to Bar" on our packaging because it's fashionable – but because it's the most honest description of our supply chain.
Our partners process the cocoa where it grows – from fermentation to roasting to pouring. This means no uprooting of the product, no anonymity, no standardization.
This type of production not only enables transparent traceability – but also preserves what is often lost in industrial processing: character, soul and origin
That means...
Origin is not a trend – but responsibility.

Your questions about the origin summarized – clear and transparent.
Transparency is one of our core values:
We don't just want to tell you how our cocoa is produced, but also openly show you who's behind it, the steps involved in each bean's production, and the impact this has on the environment, culture, and quality. In this FAQ section, you'll find the most important answers about Cabruca, the Mata Atlântica, and our sustainable value creation—so you can enjoy with a clear conscience.
What is Cabruca?
Cabruca is a traditional agroforestry farming method in which cocoa trees grow in the shade of the original Atlantic rainforest while preserving its structure.
Instead of large-scale clearing, only individual undergrowth trees are removed so that a species-rich ecosystem remains.
Where is the Atlantic Rainforest and what is the “Costa do Cacau”?
The Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Rainforest) stretches along the Brazilian coast from Rio Grande do Norte in the northeast to Rio Grande do Sul in the south, with larger remaining areas particularly in the southeast, including in the state of Bahia.
The “Costa do Cacau” (Cocoa Coast) is located in the south of Bahia around Ilhéus, Itacaré and Taboquinhas – historically once the center of global cocoa exports and today a hotspot for organic and fair trade cultivation.
Why is the Atlantic Rainforest so worth protecting?
The Mata Atlântica originally covered over one million km²; today only 7–10% of this remains, endangering unique biodiversity.
It supplies large parts of Brazil with drinking water, stores CO₂ and protects against erosion – without it, the region's climate and livelihoods would be massively threatened.
Why do we use Cabruca instead of plantations?
Cabruca preserves the forest and its biodiversity instead of deforesting it, thus stabilizing soils and microclimate.
At the same time, local communities benefit from traditional farming methods that have protected and passed on their knowledge for generations.
What does “Tree to Bar” mean?
“Tree to Bar” means that every stage of cocoa processing – from planting to fermentation, roasting to pouring – takes place at the place of origin.
This means that all added value remains in the country of origin and traceability is as transparent as possible.
Why should the added value remain in the country of production?
When processing and packaging take place locally, fair jobs are created and the region benefits directly from every step of production.
This strengthens local structures in the long term and prevents profits in global trade from being skimmed off by middlemen.
What distinguishes real cocoa from industrial cocoa?
Industrial cocoa is often grown in monocultures, chemically treated, and blended in large factories, diluting flavor and nutrients.
Our cocoa, on the other hand, grows without pesticides in agroforestry systems, is fermented by hand, and gently roasted – thus preserving flavors, antioxidants, and minerals.
Why is origin so important?
Origin provides information about cultivation, processing and social conditions – knowing these can help you make more conscious and fairer purchasing decisions.
It ensures environmental standards and fair wages and turns every product into a story that we can enjoy with a clear conscience.
